Goodspeed Opera House
The historic Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, CT, is the real theatre the Hanging Hill Playhouse is loosely based on. It was built in 1876 by William Goodspeed for his shipping and banking business and to provide a venue for his love of theatre. Home to the original productions of Man of La Mancha, Shenandoah, and Annie, and recipient of two special Tony Awards for outstanding achievement in the musical theatre, Goodspeed is world renowned as the home of the American Musical.
